Challenge
Carollo was looking to replace an existing 2-color plastic bag being used as a component of its marketing collateral. In addition to its featuring an obsolete Carollo logo, the bag was being perceived, due to its material, as contrary to the image of Carollo, a national environmental engineering consulting firm. Carollo’s challenge inspired Kröme to utilize its progressive thinking to provide an environmentally friendly and unique branding solution.
Strategy
Kröme researched several options for an alternative material to plastic that would convey a message of sustainability and maintain Carollo’s brand integrity. Carollo accepted Kröme’s recommendation to use TerraSkin, a “green” material made of tree-free, mineral-based paper produced without water or bleaching chemicals. After use and disposal, the bag would degrade back into its source: stone powder. In addition to the material, the bag was printed through a 4-color process using environmentally friendly inks.
Results
Kröme is the first marketing agency in the Pittsburgh area to utilize TerraSkin material for a client. Carollo is an example of how a company can make a strategic change to a physical aspect of its collateral and in return, reinforce its brand image and commitment to sustainability.
